Bird Dog Training:
|
Bird dog training requires effective communication between the dog and her trainer. The lack of communication results in improper of inefficient compliance by the dog because she does not understand the commands properly.
This is one reason a trainer may become angry and frustrated. The frustrated trainer tries painful training techniques and punishments to seek compliance from the dog. This is a faulty bird dog training approach.
A healthy bird dog training approach is to establish clear and effective lines of communication between the dog and her trainer.
The dog does not understand human language but she is intelligent enough to understand the meaning of specific tones, sounds and body movements of her trainer.
It is for the trainer to make the dog understand the meaning and expected behavior of each sound, tone and body movement.
Consistency is the key to effective bird dog training because if you keep on changing the commands your dog will become confused and will not display the desired behavior.
Most of the trainers forget this aspect during bird dog training and instead of correcting their training approach; they try to elicit desired behavior by punishing the dog and using painful training tools such as shock collars.
You can accomplish the desired behavior during bird dog training by using positive reinforcements (PR) as well as negative reinforcements (NR).
While positive reinforcement is the use of training rewards and or physical and verbal demonstration of love and appreciation, negative reinforcements are punishments or use of painful techniques to desist the dog from undesirable behavior.
Effective bird dog training requires a healthy mix of PR and NR. However, downplay the PR and frequent use of NR, may slow down the training process and result in development of undesirable behaviors in your bird dog.
